Indian Opposition Lawmakers Demand Probe

According to Beyond Time News, opposition lawmakers in India are calling for a high-level investigation into the suspicious death of a Muslim cleric found near railway tracks in Uttar Pradesh. The case has triggered widespread concern after conflicting reports emerged about how he died.

The incident has raised questions over the official version of events and increased pressure on authorities to carry out a transparent inquiry.

Cleric Found Dead Near Railway Tracks

Maulana Tousif Raza Mazhari, a resident of Bihar, was found dead near Bareilly railway station on April 26. He was reportedly travelling back from a religious gathering when the incident occurred.

His family claims he was attacked by fellow passengers during a train journey and later thrown off the moving train. Police initially described the death as an accident.

Family Alleges Assault Before Death

The victim’s family strongly rejects the accident theory. They say Mazhari was beaten during the journey and repeatedly sought help.

His wife said she spoke to him during a video call shortly before his death. According to her, he was being accused of theft and assaulted during the call.

The family insists the circumstances point to a deliberate attack rather than an accident.

Opposition Leaders Call for Investigation

Several Indian opposition lawmakers have demanded a thorough and independent investigation into the case.

Congress MP Dr. Mohammad Jawed said the incident reflects serious concerns about law enforcement. He pointed to the victim’s alleged distress call and said the case could indicate a wider pattern of targeted violence.

Lawmaker Imran Pratapgarhi also expressed concern, highlighting the victim’s final communication and urging authorities to uncover the truth.

MP Chandrashekhar Azad questioned the conflicting accounts between the police and the family. He said only a fair investigation can clarify what really happened.

Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi also called for accountability, urging authorities to identify those responsible if foul play is confirmed.

Police Response and Ongoing Investigation

Bareilly police initially suggested that the death may have resulted from a fall due to drowsiness. However, growing public pressure and new claims from the family have led authorities to reconsider the case.

Officials have now stated that legal action will follow once a formal complaint is filed.

Rising Demand for Transparency

The case has sparked public debate in India, with increasing calls for transparency and justice. Conflicting narratives from the police and the victim’s family have added to the controversy.

Authorities are now expected to conduct a detailed investigation to determine the exact circumstances behind the cleric’s death.
