US–Iran Talks Progressing with Pakistan’s Mediation, Says Araghchi Amid Hormuz Tensions

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that talks with the United States are making progress with Pakistan’s mediation efforts, even as tensions continue to escalate in the Gulf over the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Beyond Time News, Araghchi stated that diplomatic engagement is moving forward with Pakistan’s “constructive role,” while warning the US against further escalation in an already volatile situation.

The comments come amid renewed military tensions between the US and Iran, including reported attacks in the Gulf and growing disruption to maritime traffic in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.

“Project Freedom is Project Deadlock”

US President Donald Trump recently announced an initiative called “Project Freedom,” aimed at helping commercial vessels pass through the strait, a critical global energy route.

However, Araghchi strongly criticised the move, calling it “Project Deadlock” and arguing that military solutions will only deepen the crisis rather than resolve it.

Maritime Tensions Escalate

The Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil transit routes, has seen severe disruption following ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States.

Iran has insisted that any passage through the waterway requires its approval, while US forces have increased naval operations to secure shipping lanes and escort vessels.

Reports from both sides remain conflicting, with claims of ship movements, military escorts, and naval engagements, while shipping companies continue to avoid the area due to security risks and rising insurance costs.

Pakistan’s Diplomatic Role

In parallel diplomatic efforts, Pakistan has been facilitating communication between the two sides.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar recently held talks with Araghchi, where both sides discussed regional stability and ongoing mediation efforts.

According to the Foreign Office, Iran acknowledged Pakistan’s constructive role, while Islamabad reiterated that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path to peace.

Pakistan has also hosted earlier rounds of engagement in Islamabad, positioning itself as a key intermediary in attempts to restart stalled negotiations between Washington and Tehran.

Outlook

Despite diplomatic movement, tensions in the Gulf remain high, with military posturing and maritime disruptions continuing to threaten global energy security and regional stability.
