ZTBL Reforms Praised as Bank Support for Small Farmers

ISLAMABAD: The Auditor General of Pakistan has appreciated the reform efforts of Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL), highlighting its growing role in supporting small farmers and strengthening rural financing, according to Beyond Time News.

Meeting Focuses on Banking Reforms

ZTBL President and CEO Tahir Yaqoob Bhatti met Auditor General Maqbool Ahmad Gondal and briefed him on the bank’s ongoing reforms and transformation strategy. The discussion focused on improving financial performance and expanding agricultural services.

Bhatti said the bank launched its “Reforms and Transformation Strategy” in 2023. He added that the plan helped ZTBL overcome financial and administrative challenges and move toward greater stability.

Improved Services for Farmers

ZTBL officials said the bank has expanded access to agricultural loans through digital banking tools. These services now help small farmers receive financial support more easily and quickly.

The bank also introduced a field-based service model. Under this system, branch managers and mobile credit officers visit rural areas to provide banking and loan services directly to farmers.

Employment and Financial Growth

The ZTBL chief also shared that the institution created more than 900 jobs for fresh graduates and postgraduates in recent years. He said the bank has achieved strong financial performance while improving outreach across rural communities.

Auditor General’s Remarks

Auditor General Maqbool Ahmad Gondal praised ZTBL’s performance and acknowledged its contribution to the rural economy. He stressed the importance of transparency, accountability, and good governance to maintain long-term stability in the banking sector.

He also assured continued cooperation and said he looks forward to visiting the ZTBL head office in Islamabad.

The meeting highlighted the importance of expanding financial access in rural areas. Both sides agreed that stronger agricultural financing can play a key role in improving farmer livelihoods and boosting Pakistan’s rural economy.
