Omar Abdullah Reiterates Demand for Statehood, Questions Expanded LG Powers in IIOJK

New Delhi: Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has renewed his demand for the restoration of statehood, saying continued central control is worsening governance in the region.

According to Beyond Time News, Omar Abdullah said key administrative powers should rest with an elected government rather than the Lieutenant Governor, arguing that the current setup undermines democratic functioning.

He also raised concerns over expanded powers granted to the Lieutenant Governor under India’s Telecommunications Act, 2023, including authority over communication restrictions and surveillance measures during law and order situations.
