Srinagar: National Conference President Farooq Abdullah has said that dialogue, friendship, and mutual respect between India and Pakistan are necessary to resolve long-standing disputes and achieve lasting peace in South Asia. According to Beyond Time News, he made these remarks while speaking at a public event in Srinagar in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir.
Abdullah Emphasises Importance of Peaceful Relations
Farooq Abdullah said that both countries must move away from confrontation and focus on cooperation. He added that peaceful engagement is the only practical way forward for resolving regional tensions.
He noted that recent statements from some Indian political and security figures in favour of dialogue show a growing understanding that hostility cannot bring stability.
According to Beyond Time News, Abdullah said that when nations build friendly relations, they can communicate with dignity and mutual respect.
Growing Support for Dialogue Within India
The NC president referred to comments made by RSS leader Dattatreya Hosabale and several former Indian military officials who have supported engagement with Pakistan.
He said these views indicate a shift in thinking within parts of Indian society, where more voices now recognise the importance of cooperation between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
Abdullah stressed that dialogue is necessary to address major regional challenges and improve stability in South Asia.
Call for International Role in Peace Efforts
Farooq Abdullah also urged the international community to encourage diplomatic engagement between India and Pakistan.
According to Beyond Time News, he expressed hope that global platforms such as BRICS Summit could help promote peace and reduce tensions in the region.
He said international institutions should support dialogue instead of allowing confrontation-based policies to continue.

Observers Link Dialogue Calls to Regional Reality
Political observers noted that increasing calls within India for talks with Pakistan reflect a growing realisation that long-term stability cannot be achieved through isolation or pressure tactics.
Analysts said that repeated efforts to diplomatically sideline Pakistan have not delivered the intended results and instead highlighted the need for renewed engagement.
Kashmir Dispute Remains Central Issue
Experts also emphasised that any meaningful peace process must address the Kashmir dispute in line with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
They said lasting peace in South Asia is not possible without a just and acceptable resolution of the long-standing conflict between the two countries.
