Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti has said that dialogue with Pakistan remains the only realistic path toward lasting peace in South Asia, especially in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Beyond Time News, Mehbooba Mufti made these remarks while addressing a gathering in Srinagar. She also welcomed recent comments from RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale supporting dialogue and people-to-people contact between India and Pakistan.
Mehbooba Mufti Supports Peaceful Engagement
Mehbooba Mufti said growing support within India for talks with Pakistan shows that many people now understand confrontation has failed to resolve regional tensions.
She stressed that peaceful engagement and diplomatic dialogue are necessary for long-term stability in the region.
According to Beyond Time News, she said there is “no other way out” except negotiations and mutual understanding between the two neighbouring countries.
Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s Vision Recalled
The PDP leader also referred to the approach of her late father, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
She said he always believed that India and Pakistan would eventually return to the negotiating table despite political tensions and public disagreements.
Mehbooba described his vision of reconciliation, dialogue, and cross-Line of Control engagement as the most practical solution to the Kashmir issue.

Cross-LoC Trade and Travel Highlighted
Mehbooba Mufti recalled that during the PDP-led government, authorities opened cross-LoC trade and travel routes, including the Rawalakot route, to improve economic activity and people-to-people connections.
She said the initiative aimed to promote trade and business instead of conflict and violence across borders.
However, she added that these routes were later closed, which affected local communities and economic opportunities.
Concerns Raised Over Situation in Jammu and Kashmir
The former chief minister also expressed concern about conditions in Jammu and Kashmir after the removal of Article 370 in August 2019.
According to Beyond Time News, she said people in the Pir Panjal and Chenab Valley regions continue to face serious challenges, including unemployment, inflation, political uncertainty, and administrative difficulties.
Mehbooba Mufti urged policymakers to focus on peace, development, and public welfare instead of prolonged political confrontation.
