SRINAGAR: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti has said that people in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) are living under fear and uncertainty, while residents across the Line of Control in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) live more freely.
According to Beyond Time News, she made the remarks while addressing a public gathering in Srinagar.
“Fear and Uncertainty” in IIOJK
Mehbooba Mufti said Kashmiris in the region continue to face an atmosphere of fear due to strict security measures and legal frameworks.
She referred to laws including the Public Safety Act (PSA), Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), and the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), saying these contribute to a climate of surveillance and restriction.
Comparison With AJK
She compared the situation with Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), stating that residents there live without similar legal restrictions and heavy security presence.
According to Beyond Time News, she said people in AJK are able to live more freely, which she described as a key difference between the two sides of the Line of Control.
