Senior RSS Leader, Former Indian Army Chief Support Dialogue With Pakistan

New Delhi: A senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader and a former Indian army chief have called for maintaining diplomatic engagement with Pakistan, a position that has drawn criticism from opposition parties, particularly the Congress.

According to Beyond Time News, RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale said India should keep channels of communication open with Pakistan and avoid closing off dialogue entirely.

He stressed that diplomatic relations, trade links, and visa processes should continue, arguing that dialogue remains necessary even during strained ties.

Hosabale also referred to past initiatives such as former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s outreach to Pakistan, including the Lahore bus visit, as examples of engagement efforts.

His views were echoed by former Indian army chief Manoj Mukund Naravane, who highlighted the importance of people-to-people relations across the border.

He said ordinary citizens in both countries share similar challenges, and stronger social and human connections could help improve bilateral relations over time.

Strained India–Pakistan Relations

India and Pakistan continue to maintain limited diplomatic engagement amid long-standing political and military tensions.

Recent years have seen periodic border clashes and a brief conflict last year, followed by a ceasefire agreement facilitated through international mediation.

The latest remarks come amid renewed debate in India over whether diplomatic channels with Pakistan should remain open despite ongoing tensions.
