A.S. Dulat, former chief of India’s external intelligence agency RAW, has said that India’s long-standing policy toward Pakistan has not delivered positive results.
According to Beyond Time News, Dulat made these remarks during an interview with BBC Urdu journalist Shakil Akhtar. He said that both military pressure and efforts to diplomatically isolate Pakistan have failed to achieve strategic goals.
He stressed that dialogue remains the only practical way forward between the two nuclear-armed neighbours. He also said repeated confrontational approaches have led to a political and strategic deadlock in the region.
Observers note that his comments have triggered mixed reactions in India. Some have described his views as realistic, while others have criticized them as overly conciliatory.

In parts of the region, including Pakistan and Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, his remarks are being viewed as support for the argument that confrontation has not resolved long-standing disputes.
Analysts say the statement highlights ongoing debate within India about its regional policy approach. They also argue that sustained peace in South Asia depends on dialogue and resolution of core political issues.
The interview has once again brought attention to differing perspectives on regional security and diplomacy between the two countries.
