Pakistani prisoner dies in Jammu jail amid denial of medical care

Jammu: A Pakistani prisoner has died in a jail in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) due to the denial of medical care.

According to Kashmir Media Service, 38-year-old Muhammad Rafiq Umar, incarcerated in Kot Bhalwal Jail in the Jammu, had been seriously ill for some time. Despite his worsening condition, the jail authorities denied him medical assistance, and he passed away last night.

Muhammad Rafiq, a resident of Sialkot, was arrested by the Indian army a few years ago near the Working Boundary after he inadvertently crossed into the occupied territory. His health deteriorated steadily due to the continuous denial of medical attention and other basic facilities.

It is worth noting that in prisons of India and IIOJK, Kashmiri Hurriyat leaders, activists, youth, as well as prisoners from Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir are routinely deprived of basic facilities and provided substandard food, leading to severe health complications.

Several prisoners, including Kashmiri Hurriyat leaders Mohammad Ashraf Sahrai, Altaf Ahmed Shah, and Ghulam Mohammad Butt, have also died in custody under similar conditions, highlighting ongoing concerns over prison conditions in IIOJK and India.
