Srinagar: The Jammu–Srinagar highway remained closed for vehicular traffic on Sunday due to heavy snowfall in Ramban district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Beyond the Time News, the Traffic Police Headquarters said the closure was caused by heavy accumulation of snow between Nachlana and the Navyug Tunnel in the Banihal sub-division. Snow clearance operations are underway; however, no traffic movement has been allowed on the highway until further orders.
The advisory said that vehicular movement from Nagrota in Jammu towards Doda, Ramban, Banihal and Srinagar, as well as from Srinagar towards Jammu, has been suspended in view of the prevailing weather conditions. The Jammu–Doda road has also been closed due to snowfall and adverse conditions.
Meanwhile, commuters from Katra, Reasi and Udhampur have been advised to carry valid photo identity cards to avoid inconvenience at checkpoints during movement.
Authorities urged people to avoid unnecessary travel .
The continued closure of the highway has caused inconvenience to commuters and transporters, while residents have expressed concern over frequent disruptions due to winter weather in the occupied territory.
