Clermont Stun Toulouse 27–24 to End Year-Long Home Record

Clermont delivered a dramatic comeback to defeat Top 14 leaders Toulouse 27–24 on Sunday, ending their almost year-long unbeaten run at home. Despite the setback, Toulouse still sit comfortably at the top of the table with a 12-point lead over Pau.

The result, however, exposed some weaknesses in Toulouse’s performance as the season approaches its decisive phase.

 Flying Start by Toulouse

Toulouse began the match in explosive fashion. Teddy Thomas scored after just 42 seconds, finishing a well-timed move from Romain Ntamack. Momentum stayed with the hosts as Emmanuel Meafou added another try in the ninth minute.

Soon after, Paul Graou marked his 100th appearance with a try that pushed Toulouse ahead 21–0. At that stage, the match looked firmly under control.

 Discipline Changes the Game

Clermont slowly shifted the momentum after Toulouse lost discipline. Marcos Kremer received an orange card for head contact, which led to a 20-minute suspension. Harry Plummer also picked up a yellow card for a similar offence.

Those moments gave Clermont space to rebuild. They used strong set-pieces and reduced errors to fight back into the contest.

Leon Darricarrere started the recovery, and captain Baptiste Jauneau added another try to bring the scoreline within seven points before halftime.

Clermont Complete the Comeback

Clermont maintained pressure after the break and gradually closed the gap further. Giga Chikovani’s effort brought them closer, while Toulouse continued to struggle with handling errors.

Defensively, Clermont stayed compact and disciplined, which frustrated the home side. Harry Plummer then converted two key penalties, turning the game in Clermont’s favour.

Toulouse tried to respond but wasted several chances inside the opposition 22. Their attack lacked precision in the final stages.

Toulouse Reflect on Rare Home Defeat

Ugo Mola admitted his team would need to analyse the performance carefully after such an unexpected loss. Toulouse’s long unbeaten home record, which dated back to May 2025, finally came to an end.

Clermont climbed to fifth place with 61 points and strengthened their push for a playoff spot.

Although Toulouse remain league leaders, this result serves as a warning as the competition moves into its crucial phase.
