Climate Training Workshop Concludes at University of Gujrat

Focus on Climate-Smart Development

A three-day international workshop on climate-smart development concluded at the University of Gujrat on Wednesday. The program highlighted growing academic cooperation between Pakistan and China in environmental research.

Participants included researchers, faculty members, and students. They discussed climate change solutions, carbon neutrality strategies, and sustainable development approaches.


Expert Input from Tsinghua University

Dr Wei Li, Associate Professor at Tsinghua University’s Department of Earth System Science, led key technical sessions. He shared practical insights on global climate frameworks and carbon management.

He also discussed the expanding global market for carbon credits. In addition, he expressed willingness to support further training for Pakistani researchers, especially at the PhD level.


University Leadership Highlights Importance

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zahoor ul Haq appreciated Dr. Wei Li’s visit and contribution. He thanked him for sharing expertise with students and faculty members.

He also noted strong participation from departments including Botany, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, Zoology, and Mathematics.

He encouraged faculty members to build expertise in emerging areas such as carbon credits and climate finance.

Research Opportunities and Collaboration

Prof. Dr. Audil Rashid said the training opened new research directions. These include studies on Pakistan’s carbon budget and participation in international carbon estimation projects.

He also acknowledged support from the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. He said the funding helped strengthen academic exchange and research collaboration.


Closing and Future Outlook

The workshop ended with certificate distribution among participants. Attendees described the program as an important step for strengthening climate research capacity.

It also reinforced academic cooperation under the China-Pakistan University Consortium framework, with a focus on long-term environmental collaboration.
