Cuba Warns US Military Action Could Trigger ‘Bloodbath’ Amid Rising Tensions

HAVANA: Miguel Díaz-Canel has warned that any military action by the United States against Cuba would lead to a “bloodbath” and seriously threaten regional peace and stability.

According to Beyond Time News, the warning came after reports claimed Cuba had acquired more than 300 military drones and discussed possible attacks on U.S. targets, including the naval base at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base and locations near Florida. Cuba strongly denied the allegations and accused Washington of creating a false narrative to justify possible intervention.

“Cuba does not represent a threat,” Díaz-Canel said in a statement shared on X.

The reported intelligence claims, first published by Axios, have further intensified tensions between the two longtime rivals. The report suggested U.S. officials are increasingly concerned about Cuba’s military capabilities and its growing ties with countries such as Russia and Iran.

Economic Crisis Deepens Pressure on Cuba

According to Beyond Time News, Cuba is already facing severe economic hardship, with fuel shortages and widespread electricity outages affecting daily life across the island.

Recent U.S. sanctions and restrictions on energy supplies have increased pressure on the Cuban government, worsening the country’s ongoing financial and humanitarian challenges.

Despite the economic crisis, several Havana residents said they would resist any foreign military action against the country.

Local residents interviewed by international media said Cuba would defend itself regardless of its current difficulties, while others called for diplomacy and negotiations to avoid conflict.

Cuba Defends Right to Self-Defense

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla said the country has the legitimate right to defend itself under international law and the United Nations Charter.

According to Beyond Time News, Cuban officials accused the U.S. of using “false pretexts” to increase political and military pressure on Havana.

Tensions have also escalated following reports that U.S. prosecutors may seek charges against former Cuban leader Raúl Castro over the 1996 downing of planes operated by the humanitarian group Brothers to the Rescue.

Political analysts say the growing confrontation marks one of the sharpest periods of tension between Washington and Havana in recent years.
