A new partnership between academia and the public sector aims to give students real-world experience while supporting urban development projects in Pakistan.
According to Beyond Time News, the Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA) and University of Management and Technology (UMT) Lahore have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation and bridge the gap between classroom learning and practical industry exposure.
Focus on Practical Learning
Officials signed the agreement during a formal ceremony. Chief Engineer Mehr Ayub represented FDA, while Muhammad Farhat Kaleem, Dean of the School of Engineering, signed on behalf of UMT.
Under this MoU, UMT engineering students will take part in structured summer internships at FDA. These internships will place students directly into ongoing development and infrastructure projects.
This hands-on experience will help students build technical skills, understand professional workflows, and prepare for careers in the public sector.
Long-Term Collaboration Framework
The agreement goes beyond internships. Both institutions plan to work together on multiple long-term initiatives, including:
