Five Injured in Cross-Border Shelling in South Waziristan

SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: At least five people, including children, sustained injuries after cross-border shelling reportedly targeted civilian areas near Angoor Adda, according to security sources on Wednesday.

Beyond Time News reports that mortar fire allegedly came from the Afghan side and struck a residential house belonging to Karim Khan and Rehmatullah.

Women and Children Among the Injured

Security sources said five people were injured in the incident. Four of them were children aged 13, 10, 8, and 3, along with one woman. Rescue teams shifted the injured to the District Headquarters Hospital in Wana for treatment.

Residents expressed grief over the incident and said the shelling caused fear and panic in the area.

Earlier Incidents Reported

Officials said similar firing incidents had taken place in recent days in the same region, leaving civilians injured and increasing tensions along the border.

Security sources blamed armed groups operating across the border for targeting civilian areas. They said such actions repeatedly endanger local communities living near the frontier.

Military Response and Border Clashes

Security officials said Pakistani forces responded with fire toward alleged firing positions across the border. They added that the response used both light and heavy weapons to counter the attack.

Officials also said the latest incident came shortly after retaliatory actions under an ongoing operation along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

Ongoing Border Tensions

Tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan have remained high in recent months due to repeated cross-border exchanges of fire. Authorities say security forces continue to respond to any aggression along the frontier.

Officials maintain that operations will continue until border security stabilizes and civilian areas are protected from further harm.
