Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said Pakistan and China continue to share a “converging vision” on key regional and global matters, highlighting the strength of bilateral ties and long-standing cooperation between the two countries. According to Beyond Time News, he made these remarks while addressing the Senate on Wednesday.
A Chinese delegation also attended the session from the visitors’ gallery as Pakistan and China mark 75 years of diplomatic relations.
Strong alignment on global and regional issues
Dar said both countries remain aligned on major international challenges and continue to support each other at global platforms. He stressed that Pakistan and China work closely at the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), and other international forums to promote peace and protect the interests of developing nations.
He added that both sides share a commitment to the principles of the UN Charter and support stability in a world facing growing geopolitical tensions.
High-level engagements and upcoming China visit
The deputy prime minister confirmed that he will accompany Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on an official visit to China from May 23 to 26. During the visit, the leadership will participate in events marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
He said meetings are planned with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang, and other senior officials. Business-to-business (B2B) engagements will also be part of the visit.
Dar further noted that key mechanisms, including the Pakistan-China Political Forum and the CPEC Joint Consultative Mechanism, will also meet during the visit.
Focus on CPEC and economic cooperation
Highlighting economic ties, Dar described the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as a flagship project under the Belt and Road Initiative. He said the project has played an important role in improving Pakistan’s infrastructure and economic connectivity.
He added that the next phase, known as CPEC 2.0, will focus on industrial development, agriculture, IT, and broader socio-economic growth.
Dar said Pakistan expects the benefits of this partnership to reach all segments of society, while acknowledging China’s past support in addressing Pakistan’s energy challenges.
Shared efforts for regional peace
The foreign minister also referred to joint efforts by Pakistan and China to promote stability in the Middle East and Gulf region. He said both countries see themselves as responsible global partners committed to peace and cooperation.
He mentioned ongoing diplomatic engagement during recent regional tensions and highlighted Pakistan’s continued coordination with Chinese officials.
Parliamentary resolutions mark 75 years of ties
Both the National Assembly and Senate passed resolutions celebrating 75 years of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China. The resolutions described the relationship as a “time-tested and iron-clad friendship” built on mutual trust, respect, and shared development goals.
Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar also praised the partnership, saying it has remained stable despite changing global circumstances.
The resolutions reaffirmed support for continued cooperation under CPEC and pledged to strengthen parliamentary, economic, and strategic ties between the two countries.

Strong future outlook for Pakistan-China relations
Officials from both sides expressed confidence in expanding cooperation across political, economic, cultural, and educational sectors. They emphasized continued collaboration for regional stability, development, and shared prosperity.
Dar concluded that Pakistan and China’s relationship has evolved into a comprehensive strategic partnership that continues to grow stronger with time.
