Srinagar: Protest demonstrations by non-gazetted employees of Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) are intensifying across Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), as workers continue to demand long-pending service reforms, promotions, and recruitment rules. According to Kashmir Media Service, the unrest highlights growing frustration over delays in administrative decisions under the BJP-led administration.
Rajouri GMC employees continue 10-day protest
The peaceful protest by non-gazetted employees of Government Medical College and Associated Hospital Rajouri entered its tenth straight day on Wednesday. Employees, led by GMC Employees Union president Nasir Khan and other representatives, are demanding immediate approval of long-pending Recruitment Rules.
These rules have reportedly remained unresolved since 2019, creating uncertainty for staff members. Employees say the delay has stalled career progression and negatively affected morale across the institution.
Workers say demands remain ignored for years
Protesting employees allege that authorities have repeatedly ignored their genuine concerns despite several formal representations over the years. They argue that the continued delay has left staff members in a state of professional uncertainty.
They also stress that the lack of action has weakened confidence in the system and disrupted smooth functioning within the healthcare workforce.

Baramulla GMC staff stage candlelight protest
In a separate demonstration, employees of Government Medical College Baramulla held a peaceful candlelight protest. They raised their voices against delayed promotions and unresolved service structure issues.
Workers said many employees have waited nearly seven years without receiving promotions despite consistent service in the health sector. They added that stagnation has created dissatisfaction among staff and affected workplace motivation.
Employees highlight stress and financial pressure
Protesters described worsening working conditions and said prolonged delays have caused mental stress and financial difficulties. They argued that repeated administrative delays have increased resentment among employees across the healthcare system.
They also criticized what they called administrative indifference, saying it contradicts claims of efficient governance in the region.
Call for dialogue and urgent resolution
Employees urged authorities to resolve the matter through dialogue and finalize pending recruitment rules without further delay. They said timely action is necessary to restore trust and ensure fair career progression for healthcare workers.
They also emphasized that medical staff continue to work under difficult conditions and deserve timely recognition and structured career advancement.
Growing discontent among employees
The ongoing protests reflect broader dissatisfaction among government employees in IIOJK. Workers across multiple departments continue to raise concerns about delayed promotions, unclear service rules, and administrative delays that affect their professional stability.
As protests spread, employees insist that urgent reforms are needed to address long-standing grievances and restore confidence in the system.
