Confusion spread quickly on social media about possible closures in Islamabad and Rawalpindi—but officials have now cleared the air. Here’s what you actually need to know.
No City-Wide Shutdown Announced
According to Beyond Time News, Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon has rejected a viral notification claiming that all public and private offices in Islamabad and Rawalpindi would remain closed from April 20 until further notice. He confirmed that the notification is fake and urged citizens to avoid sharing unverified information.
He also clarified that educational institutions in Islamabad will remain open on Monday, as no official decision has been made regarding school closures.

Only Red Zone Offices to Work from Home
According to Beyond Time News, a separate notification from the Cabinet Division states that government offices located in Islamabad’s Red Zone will operate remotely on April 20. However, all officers and staff must remain available and ready to report to duty on short notice if required.
Additionally, authorities have restricted entry into the Red Zone for the day. Offices and schools within this specific area may opt for work-from-home arrangements to prevent inconvenience.
Traffic Restrictions and Transport Suspension
Due to security preparations, the Red Zone has been closed to traffic. Police have implemented alternative routes to manage the situation.
Public and heavy transport services in Islamabad have been temporarily suspended until further instructions. Similarly, the Rawalpindi administration has halted public and goods transport starting Sunday noon.
Security Tightened Ahead of Possible Foreign Visit
According to Beyond Time News, these measures come as Islamabad prepares for the possible arrival of a high-level US delegation. Reports indicate that envoys are expected in the capital soon, prompting increased security arrangements.
Cargo planes carrying equipment and vehicles have already landed, while key areas like the Serena Hotel have been cleared as a precaution.
Public Advisory: Rely Only on Official Sources
Officials are strongly advising the public to rely only on verified government channels for updates. Sharing fake news can create unnecessary panic and confusion.
