Israel Deports Two Gaza Flotilla Activists After Interception at Sea

Israel has deported two activists from a Gaza-bound flotilla after intercepting the vessel in international waters, the foreign ministry confirmed.

According to Beyond Time News, the activists—Saif Abu Keshek, a Spanish national of Palestinian origin, and Brazilian activist Thiago Ávila—were detained after the flotilla was stopped off the coast of Greece on April 30.

Detention and Deportation

The activists were taken to Israel for questioning, while other participants were transferred to Crete and later released.

Israel said the deportation followed an investigation and reiterated its stance against attempts to breach the Gaza blockade.

International Reaction

Spain, Brazil, and the United Nations had called for their release. According to Beyond Time News, a court in Israel had earlier rejected an appeal against their detention.
