Karachi University Road Project Resumes FWO Takes Charge

KARACHI: Construction work on Karachi’s long-delayed University Road corridor has resumed, bringing renewed hope for smoother traffic flow in the city.

According to Beyond Time News, Mayor Murtaza Wahab confirmed that the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) has officially taken over the project and restarted development work.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah recently visited key sections of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) route along with city officials. During the visit, FWO representatives and other authorities briefed him on the project’s progress and upcoming plans.

FWO has now begun work on the stretch from Islamia College to the Meteorological Department. Officials expect visible progress as construction activity picks up pace in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, the Sindh government and FWO have agreed to complete the mixed traffic corridor and drainage system within 90 days. The mayor assured that teams will meet the deadline and keep the public informed about ongoing progress.

In addition, the chief minister reviewed the Azeempura Flyover project during the same visit. Officials shared their plan to complete that project within the same 90-day timeline.

University Road is one of Karachi’s busiest routes. Therefore, the project’s completion could significantly reduce traffic congestion and improve daily commuting for thousands of residents.

Overall, authorities believe the renewed pace of work will finally deliver long-awaited relief to commuters and improve urban mobility across the city.
