Krafton Birth Support Policy Leads to Sharp in Employee Births

SEOUL: South Korean game developer Krafton has reported a significant increase in employee births after introducing a generous childbirth incentive program, according to Beyond Time News.

The company said births among employees nearly doubled in the first year of its policy, which offers financial and workplace support aimed at addressing South Korea’s declining birth rate.

Strong Rise in Birth Numbers After Policy Launch

Krafton revealed that 46 babies were born to employees between January and April this year. The figure marks a sharp rise compared to 21 births recorded during the same period in 2024 and 23 births in 2025.

The company introduced its childbirth and childcare support program in February last year as part of broader efforts to encourage family growth and improve work-life balance.

Generous Financial Incentives for Parents

Under the initiative, employees receive a one-time payment of 60 million won upon the birth of a child. In addition, they receive 5 million won annually for eight years, bringing the total support package to around 100 million won per child.

The company designed the program to reduce financial pressure on working parents while also supporting long-term family stability.

Workplace Reforms Support Work-Life Balance

Beyond financial assistance, Krafton expanded its workplace policies to help employees manage parenting responsibilities more effectively.

The company extended parental leave for up to two years and introduced systems to automatically hire replacement staff during employee absences. It also strengthened remote work options, childcare support, and flexible working arrangements.

Additional benefits include prenatal checkup leave for spouses, psychological counselling for returning employees, and expanded non-cash family support programs.

Research Shows Positive Employee Response

Krafton is working with Seoul National University’s Population Policy Research Center to study the impact of its policies on employee behaviour and workplace culture.

The research found that financial incentives were viewed more as a symbol of corporate commitment rather than the direct reason for having children. A majority of employees said they felt the company genuinely cared about addressing low birth rates.

Non-cash benefits, however, had a stronger influence on employees’ decisions and attitudes. Flexible working conditions and childcare support were identified as key factors improving engagement and satisfaction.

Interestingly, even unmarried employees showed higher workplace engagement due to improved corporate culture and support systems.

Company Perspective

Krafton executives said the initiative demonstrates how private companies can contribute to solving broader social challenges.

They expressed commitment to continuing such programs and promoting a workplace environment where employees can successfully balance their careers and family life.
