NDMA Issues Heavy Rain Alert for Karachi, Islamabad, Punjab and KP Ahead of Eid Holidays

ISLAMABAD – The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has warned of heavy rainfall in Karachi and several other parts of Pakistan over the coming days. The authority has urged local administrations to stay prepared as the wet weather could trigger urban flooding, traffic disruptions, and other emergencies during and after the Eid-ul-Adha holidays.

According to Beyond Time News, rain, strong winds, and hailstorms may affect several regions, including Sindh, Punjab, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Karachi and Sindh Prepare for Rainy Weather

The NDMA expects heavy rainfall in Karachi from the fourth day of Eid-ul-Adha.

In addition, Hyderabad, Thatta, and Badin may receive rain along with strong winds on May 30 and 31. As a result, water could accumulate in low-lying areas and create traffic problems in busy parts of these cities.

Therefore, local authorities have started monitoring the situation closely.

Punjab, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi Also Likely to Receive Rain

Weather forecasts indicate rainfall across several parts of Punjab between May 28 and May 31.

Similarly, Islamabad and Rawalpindi may experience showers during this period. Consequently, commuters could face delays, while outdoor activities may also suffer disruptions.

Meanwhile, officials have advised residents to follow weather updates and plan their travel accordingly.

KP Faces Risk of Rain and Hailstorms

The NDMA has forecast rain and hailstorms in several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from May 26 to May 31.

The affected areas include Chitral, Dir, and Swat. Because these districts contain mountainous terrain, heavy rainfall could trigger landslides and block key roads.

For this reason, district administrations have increased monitoring efforts and asked emergency teams to remain ready.

Landslide Blocks Traffic in Chitral

A landslide has already disrupted traffic on Boni Road in Chitral.

The blockage created long queues of vehicles on both sides of the route. Consequently, many travelers, including women, children, and elderly passengers, remained stranded for several hours.

Furthermore, some residents expressed concern over delays in clearing the road and restoring normal traffic flow.

NDMA Calls for Immediate Preparedness

The NDMA has directed provincial authorities, rescue services, and local administrations to remain alert throughout the forecast period.

Additionally, the authority has asked emergency teams to stay ready for rapid response operations if heavy rain causes flooding, landslides, or other incidents.

Officials also continue to monitor weather developments and coordinate with relevant departments.

Safety Measures for Citizens

To stay safe during the expected weather conditions, citizens should:

  • Follow official weather advisories regularly.
  • Avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain.
  • Stay away from flood-prone and low-lying areas.
  • Drive carefully on slippery roads.
  • Cooperate with local authorities and rescue teams when necessary.

Moreover, families should keep emergency supplies available in case weather conditions worsen unexpectedly.

Conclusion

Pakistan may experience widespread rainfall in the coming days as a new weather system moves across several regions. While Karachi, Sindh, Punjab, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remain under close watch, authorities continue preparations to handle any emergencies.

According to Beyond Time News, citizens should stay informed, follow official instructions, and take precautionary measures to remain safe during the changing weather conditions.
