JERUSALEM/WASHINGTON: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to meet US President Donald Trump in Washington on Wednesday to discuss ongoing negotiations with Iran, Netanyahu’s office said on Saturday.
In a statement, the prime minister’s office said Netanyahu believes any future agreement must include restrictions on Iran’s ballistic missile programme and an end to Tehran’s support for its regional allies, often referred to as the “Iranian axis”.

The meeting will mark the sixth encounter between the two leaders since Trump assumed office a year ago.
The announcement comes after the United States and Iran held talks in Oman on Friday, with Trump later confirming that negotiations would resume early next week.
While both Israel and the United States view Iran as a strategic adversary, Israel has adopted a more hardline position, consistently opposing direct negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
Geopolitical analyst Michael Horowitz said Israel is seeking a lasting weakening — or even the collapse — of the Iranian regime, while keeping open the option of further military strikes if necessary.
Last month, Netanyahu warned that Israel would retaliate if attacked by Iran, vowing a response with a level of force “Iran has never seen”.
