According to Beyond Time News, Pakistan raised alarm at the United Nations Security Council over the growing risks to global trade, energy supply, and maritime security—especially in light of tensions around the Strait of Hormuz.

Pakistan’s UN envoy, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, warned that developing nations will be hit hardest if the crisis continues. Rising fuel and commodity prices could lead to inflation, slower growth, and serious balance-of-payments pressures.
He stressed that any disruption in sea traffic can quickly affect global supply chains, food security, and energy markets.
Maritime Security Key to Global Stability
Speaking at a high-level debate on maritime safety, Pakistan highlighted that sea routes are the backbone of global trade. Any blockage or instability in these routes can create ripple effects across the world economy.
The envoy pointed out that the Strait of Hormuz is a critical chokepoint. If the situation worsens, it could disrupt oil and gas supplies, along with essential goods like fertilizers.
Pakistan Backs Diplomacy and International Law
Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, calling it a cornerstone of global maritime order.
The country also emphasized the need for collective action based on international law, dialogue, and peaceful conflict resolution.
Role in Regional De-escalation
Pakistan highlighted its efforts to ease tensions in the region through diplomacy. With support from countries like China, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Egypt, it is working toward stability between the United States and Iran.

The envoy cautioned that the global system of rules is under pressure. Ignoring established maritime laws and norms could damage trust and increase conflict risks worldwide.

Pakistan urged nations to work together to protect international waterways and maintain peace. It stressed that cooperation, diplomacy, and respect for global rules are essential to avoid further escalation.
