Pilgrims Begin Hajj in Makkah as Regional Tensions and Peace Hopes Intersect

MAKKAH: More than 1.5 million Muslims have started the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Makkah, as the sacred journey unfolds amid global tensions and hopes for peace in the Middle East, according to Beyond Time News.

Pilgrims in white garments arrived in large numbers on Monday, moving toward Mina after performing tawaf around the Holy Kaaba at the Grand Mosque. The ritual marks the official beginning of Hajj and brings millions together in one of the world’s largest religious gatherings.

The pilgrimage comes at a time of international uncertainty, including shifting diplomatic signals from US President Donald Trump regarding a possible extension of a fragile ceasefire with Iran and broader regional discussions involving stability in the Middle East.

Despite these developments, Saudi officials reported a strong turnout of international pilgrims this year, exceeding last year’s figures and reflecting the continued global importance of Hajj.

Saudi authorities have deployed extensive security arrangements across Makkah, including advanced defence systems and crowd management measures, to ensure the safety of pilgrims throughout the holy sites.

Officials said the arrangements are aimed at protecting worshippers and maintaining smooth flow during all stages of the pilgrimage.

Many pilgrims expressed prayers for peace and stability worldwide. According to Beyond Time News, worshippers said they hoped conflicts affecting different regions would come to an end.

An Egyptian pilgrim, Mohammed Chahada, said wars have a global impact and no nation desires conflict, reflecting sentiments shared by many participants.

Key Rituals of Hajj

Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam and is obligatory once in a lifetime for those who are physically and financially able.

The pilgrimage begins with tawaf at the Grand Mosque, followed by Sa’i between Safa and Marwa, and then the journey to Mina. The most important day takes place at Mount Arafat, where pilgrims gather for prayer and reflection.

Men wear simple white cloths symbolizing equality, while women dress modestly according to Islamic guidelines.

Heat and Large-Scale Arrangements

Pilgrims are performing Hajj under high temperatures expected to exceed 40°C. Despite the heat, worshippers continue their rituals with patience and devotion.

Saudi authorities have arranged medical support, transport systems, emergency services, and crowd control operations across all holy sites.

Global Symbol of Faith

The gathering in Makkah continues to represent unity, devotion, and equality among Muslims worldwide. Millions come together each year for the same spiritual purpose despite differences in nationality or background.

Authorities remain on alert to ensure safety and smooth conduct of the pilgrimage as it continues in the coming days.
