PPP Labour Bureau Announces Nationwide Day Observance

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Labour Bureau has announced that International Labour Day will be observed across the country with rallies, seminars, and processions to highlight workers’ rights and honour labour struggles worldwide.

May Day events planned nationwide

PPP Labour Bureau In-charge Chaudhry Manzoor Ahmad said on Monday that Labour Day will be marked with full enthusiasm in all provinces, including Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. He added that district-level programmes will be organised to ensure wide participation.

He further stated that workers will gather in rallies and seminars to pay tribute to the Chicago martyrs, whose sacrifices remain central to the global labour movement.

Focus on workers’ rights and challenges

Chaudhry Manzoor Ahmad noted that labourers in Pakistan are currently facing growing economic and social pressures. He stressed that May Day events will also serve as a platform to highlight these challenges and demand stronger protection of workers’ rights.

He also recalled that major progress for labour rights came during the eras of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, and President Asif Ali Zardari, under whose leadership workers received key benefits and reforms.

Nationwide mobilisation expected

With preparations underway, PPP aims to turn May Day into a coordinated national movement, focusing on solidarity with the working class and renewed attention to labour rights across Pakistan.
