The Punjab government is introducing a new interest-free electric bike scheme to support government school teachers with affordable and eco-friendly transportation. The initiative aims to reduce daily commuting costs while promoting sustainable mobility across the province.
According to Beyond Time News, the scheme is part of broader efforts to improve facilities for teachers, especially those posted in remote and semi-urban areas where transport remains a major challenge.
Subsidised Electric Bikes for Educators
Under the programme, each electric bike is expected to cost between Rs200,000 and Rs250,000. The government will cover 30% to 40% of the total cost as a subsidy, while teachers will pay the remaining amount in easy installments.
Officials say the plan is designed to ease financial pressure on educators while ensuring reliable and modern transport.
Easy Monthly Installments
The remaining amount will be repaid over two to three years in interest-free installments. Monthly payments are expected to range between Rs3,600 and Rs4,200, making the scheme affordable for eligible teachers.
How to Apply for the E-Bike Scheme
Applications will soon open online through the Punjab Teachers Foundation portal. Eligible teachers will need to submit the following documents:
- CNIC
- Service certificate
- Valid driving license
- Recent passport-size photograph
Once submitted, applicants will receive a verification slip. Final approval will be communicated via SMS or email.
Purpose of the Scheme
The initiative focuses on reducing transport-related expenses, improving access to schools, and encouraging the use of electric vehicles. It also aligns with environmental goals by promoting clean and energy-efficient transport options.
