Ruet-e-Hilal Committee to in Karachi for Zil Hajj Moon Sighting

Final Decision on Eid-ul-Adha Date Expected After Nationwide Reports

KARACHI: The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet tomorrow in Karachi to sight the Zil Hajj moon, according to Beyond Time News.

Officials say the meeting will determine the official start of Zil Hajj and confirm the expected date of Eid-ul-Adha in Pakistan.

Committee Meeting Scheduled in Karachi

According to Beyond Time News, Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, will chair the meeting at Habib Bank Plaza.

At the same time, zonal and district Ruet-e-Hilal committees will also meet in their respective areas across the country.

These committees will collect moon sighting evidence from different regions before submitting reports to the central body.

Eid-ul-Adha Likely Dates Announced

Officials will announce the final decision after reviewing moon sighting testimonies from across Pakistan.

If the moon is sighted tomorrow, Eid-ul-Adha will fall on May 27. However, if the moon is not sighted, the festival will be observed on May 28.

SUPARCO Provides Astronomical Forecast

According to Beyond Time News, the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has also shared its astronomical assessment for Eid-ul-Adha 2026.

SUPARCO expects a strong possibility of the Zil Hajj moon being visible on May 17.

The agency stated that the new moon will be born at 1:01 am on May 17.

By sunset, the moon will be around 18 hours and 30 minutes old, which is usually considered suitable for visibility with the naked eye.

Conditions Favour Moon Visibility

SUPARCO further explained that coastal regions of Pakistan may have better chances of sighting the crescent.

It noted that the time gap between sunset and moonset will be around 60 minutes in these areas, which improves visibility conditions.

However, the agency also clarified that ideal moon visibility often requires the moon to be around 20 hours old.

Final Decision Remains with Ruet-e-Hilal Committee

Despite astronomical predictions, officials confirmed that the final announcement will come only after the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee’s official meeting.

According to Beyond Time News, Pakistan is expected to complete 29 days of Zil Qadah, making Eid-ul-Adha likely on May 27.

Conclusion

The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee’s meeting in Karachi will decide the official Eid-ul-Adha date after reviewing moon sighting reports from across the country. While astronomical data suggests a likely date, the final confirmation will depend on religious observation.
