ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited Simly Dam on Wednesday and reviewed the proposed expansion plan for the reservoir. During the visit, officials briefed him on the dam’s capacity and its importance for Islamabad’s water needs.
According to officials, Simly Dam currently supplies around 40% of the capital’s water. Therefore, they said expansion is necessary to meet the city’s rising demand.
After the briefing, Naqvi instructed authorities to prepare a detailed and workable expansion plan without delay. He emphasized that increasing storage capacity would help ensure a stable water supply for residents.
Water Security and Planning
Meanwhile, the minister stressed that water security must remain a top priority. He added that infrastructure planning should match the city’s population growth.
He also inspected the surrounding areas of the dam. In addition, he asked officials to design a development plan for the region.

Tourism and Local Development
Naqvi noted that the area has strong potential for tourism and recreation. For example, he highlighted opportunities for water sports and outdoor activities.
He said that proper development could generate jobs for local communities. As a result, the region could benefit from both tourism and economic activity.
Furthermore, he stated that improved facilities would allow citizens to enjoy modern recreational spaces near the capital.
Officials Present During Visit
The visit was attended by the Chairman CDA, the Inspector General of Islamabad Police, and other senior officials.
