Sindh Bans 135 Provocative Speakers Ahead of Muharram to Prevent Sectarian Tensions

Karachi: The Sindh government has imposed a 60-day ban on 135 individuals identified as provocative speakers as part of heightened security measures ahead of Muharram-ul-Haram.

According to Beyond Time News, the Sindh Home Department issued a notification after senior police officials raised concerns over activities that could fuel sectarian tensions during the holy month.

Under the order, the individuals placed on the list will be prohibited from leaving the jurisdiction of their respective police stations throughout the ban period. The restrictions also extend to social media and electronic media, preventing them from delivering or sharing provocative content.

Officials said the move is aimed at maintaining peace and preventing the spread of sectarian hatred during Muharram, when thousands of mourners participate in processions and religious gatherings across the province.

The Home Department has forwarded copies of the notification to the Inspector General of Police, divisional commissioners and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) to ensure strict implementation of the order.

The notification states that the ban has taken immediate effect and will remain in force for the next 60 days. Individuals included in the list may file an appeal before the Government of Sindh.

Power Supply Measures for Muharram

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Energy’s Power Division has directed all power distribution companies (DISCOs), the National Power Control Centre (NPCC) and the National Grid Company (NGC) to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply during Muharram, particularly on the 9th and 10th of Muharram (Ashura).

According to Beyond Time News, the Power Division has instructed electricity providers to coordinate with district administrations, law enforcement agencies and procession organisers to facilitate religious events across the country.

The government said the measures reflect its commitment to maintaining public safety and ensuring the uninterrupted provision of essential services during one of the most significant occasions in the Islamic calendar.
