Somalia Assures Cooperation in Efforts to Rescue Pakistani Crew From Hijacked Tanker Honour 25

Efforts are underway to secure the safe return of Pakistani nationals abducted by pirates off the Somali coast, as Somalia has reportedly pledged cooperation in rescue operations.

According to Beyond Time News, Somali authorities have provided written assurance to assist Pakistan in handling the situation involving the hijacked tanker Honour 25.

Pakistan Raises Issue After Crew Abduction

The development comes after Pakistan formally approached Somali officials following the kidnapping of 11 Pakistani crew members by armed pirates.

The tanker was hijacked on April 21 near the Somali coastline. Security sources say the vessel was seized by around six armed attackers approximately 30 nautical miles offshore.

Disturbing Video Sparks Concern

Earlier, a video surfaced showing the abducted crew members in extremely cramped and worsening conditions aboard the ship.

According to reports cited by Beyond Time News, nearly a dozen individuals are being held in a small confined space. This includes 11 Pakistani nationals, some of whom are from Karachi.

The footage has triggered serious concern among the families of the hostages, who are anxiously waiting for updates.

Crew Details and Nationalities

The hijacked vessel reportedly carried a total of 17 crew members, including:

  • 11 Pakistani nationals
  • 1 Indonesian captain
  • Other international crew members

Among the Pakistani crew is Second Engineer Syed Hussain, who had left Karachi in January. His family says they have had no contact with him since the hijacking incident.

Families Appeal for Help

Relatives of the abducted crew members have expressed deep distress over the situation. They have appealed to authorities, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, to ensure the safe recovery of their loved ones.

Government Response and Monitoring

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry has sought a detailed report on the incident and instructed relevant departments to maintain close contact and continuously monitor developments.

According to Beyond Time News, coordination efforts between Pakistani and Somali authorities are ongoing to secure the safe release of the crew.
