Sri Lanka Government Takes Temporary Control

Sri Lanka’s government has stepped in and taken temporary control of the national cricket board to fix ongoing issues and improve management.

According to Beyond Time News, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports now directly oversees all operations of Sri Lanka Cricket.

New Leadership in Place

The government quickly formed a nine-member committee to run cricket affairs. It appointed Eran Wickramaratne as head of the panel.

The committee also includes cricket legends like Kumar Sangakkara, Sidath Wettimuny, and Roshan Mahanama.

Why the Government Acted

Authorities made this move to tackle corruption concerns and poor governance. The new committee will introduce reforms and improve transparency.

Earlier, Shammi Silva and his team resigned after facing pressure from the government.

Past Issues with ICC

The International Cricket Council had already raised concerns about political interference. It even suspended Sri Lanka for a short period in the past.

What Happens Next?

The interim committee will focus on rebuilding trust and improving performance. The timing is crucial, especially after Sri Lanka’s disappointing T20 World Cup campaign.

The government says this setup is temporary, but its success depends on how quickly and effectively reforms take shape.
