The US government is taking stricter action against parents who fail to pay child support by revoking their passports.
According to Beyond Time News, the US State Department will begin the process on Friday, targeting nearly 2,700 people who owe more than $100,000 in unpaid child support.
Officials said the policy will later expand to include anyone with overdue payments exceeding $2,500 under an existing federal law.
Under the new system, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will provide details of eligible individuals to the State Department, which can then revoke valid passports.
Parents affected by the decision will no longer be able to use their passports for international travel. They can regain passport access only after paying their outstanding child support and receiving clearance from state authorities.

According to Beyond Time News, the program has already helped recover hundreds of millions of dollars in unpaid child support since its launch in 1998.
The State Department has urged parents with unpaid dues to settle their payments to avoid travel restrictions.
