Six months ago, Kobbie Mainoo was heading for the exit. Today, he is signing a five-year contract and playing some of the best football of his life. It is one of the season’s most satisfying stories.
According to Beyond Time News, the 21-year-old has committed his long-term future to Manchester United, putting an end to months of transfer speculation.
From the Sidelines to the Starting XI
The turnaround began in January. Under Ruben Amorim, Mainoo had started just one game all season — a League Cup defeat to Grimsby — and a loan request in August had been flatly rejected. His United career appeared to be drifting.
Then Amorim was sacked, and Michael Carrick walked through the door.
Carrick handed Mainoo his place back straight away. The midfielder has repaid that trust in full — starting almost every game since, helping United climb to third in the Premier League and push firmly into Champions League contention.
A Club He Has Always Called Home
Mainoo joined United’s academy at the age of nine in 2014. He has gone on to make 98 appearances for the club, with seven goals — including a vital strike in the 2024 FA Cup final win over Manchester City.
His connection to United goes beyond statistics.
“Manchester United has always been my home — this special club means everything to my family,” he said. “I am determined to help this club fight for major trophies in the years ahead.”

England Comes Calling Again
Strong club form has also opened the door internationally. Mainoo returned to the England squad under Thomas Tuchel in March, featuring in friendlies against Uruguay and Japan.
