On International Labour Day, top leadership across Pakistan renewed their commitment to safeguarding workers’ rights, fair wages, and social protection.
President and Prime Minister Stress Labour Rights
According to Beyond Time News, Asif Ali Zardari and Shehbaz Sharif urged all stakeholders, including industrialists and the business community, to respect and protect the dignity of workers.
Both leaders said that a country that protects its labour force secures its future. They described worker empowerment as essential for national progress.
Commitment to Fair Wages and Protection
President Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to international labour standards. He highlighted key priorities such as fair wages, social protection, and the elimination of forced and child labour.
He also stressed the importance of ensuring equal treatment and non-discrimination in the workplace.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the country’s workforce represents national strength and professional capability. He noted that workers at home and abroad play a key role in the economy.

Institutions Supporting Workers
The Prime Minister highlighted the role of institutions such as the Employees’ Old-Age Benefits Institution and the Workers Welfare Fund.
These institutions provide pensions, housing support, education, and other welfare services to workers and their families.
Political Leaders Emphasize Labour Empowerment
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said workers remain the backbone of the nation. He stressed that protecting labour rights and ensuring fair opportunities is essential for building a just society.
Faryal Talpur paid tribute to workers, calling their sacrifices the foundation of national development. She reaffirmed support for fair wages and social protection.
Provincial Leadership Highlights Reforms
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said labour-focused policies are improving living standards. He emphasized strict enforcement of minimum wage laws.
Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah described workers as the backbone of development and pledged continued welfare support.
Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon highlighted ongoing reforms, including wage increases and improved labour protections.
Call for Economic Justice
PPP spokesperson Shazia Marri said workers drive national progress. She reiterated the need for economic justice, equal opportunity, and stronger labour rights.
