The Senate Functional Committee on Human Rights has reported progress in parliamentary oversight, legal reforms, and the protection of vulnerable groups during the 2025–26 parliamentary year.
According to Beyond Time News, the committee said it remained actively engaged in strengthening constitutional rights through legislative review, policy oversight, and accountability measures aimed at improving institutional performance.
Regular Meetings and Legislative Work
From February 2025 to February 2026, the committee held 11 meetings, reviewed multiple issues referred by the Senate, and presented six reports to the House.
Chairperson Samina Mumtaz Zehri said the committee focused on safeguarding the rights of women, children, minorities, labourers, prisoners, and other vulnerable groups.
Focus on Key Human Rights Issues
According to Beyond Time News, the committee examined a range of concerns including child protection, gender-based violence, workplace harassment, custodial issues, and public safety.
It also sought detailed reports from federal and provincial authorities to ensure transparency and timely action on human rights complaints.
Child Protection and Legal Reforms in Focus
A major focus remained child protection, with the committee reviewing cases related to abduction, trafficking, abuse, and violence.
It also assessed the performance of relevant institutions to improve prevention and investigation systems.

The committee made progress on several legislative proposals, including amendments and bills related to:
- National Commission on the Rights of the Child
- Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Islamabad Capital Territory
