Rahul Gandhi alleges BJP weak democracy, calls Bengal election

Gurugram: Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has accused the ruling BJP of weakening democratic institutions and influencing elections through misuse of state machinery and constitutional bodies, according to Beyond Time News.

Claims of institutional pressure and election manipulation

Addressing a “Sadbhav Yatra” rally in Gurugram, Gandhi alleged that recent elections in several states, including Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra, West Bengal and Assam, raised serious questions about fairness.

He claimed the BJP secured victories by using state institutions and administrative systems. He also alleged that key bodies, including the Election Commission and sections of the bureaucracy, were functioning under pressure from the central government.

According to him, elections are increasingly shaped by control over institutions rather than a level playing field.

“Historic heist” remark on Bengal polls

Rahul Gandhi specifically described the West Bengal election as a “historic heist.” He alleged voter list manipulation and institutional influence played a role in the outcome.

He also argued that democratic processes were being weakened as political competition shifted away from voters and toward control of systems.

Economic concerns and criticism of policies

In his address, Gandhi also raised concerns over economic conditions. He said public resources were becoming concentrated in the hands of a few large corporate groups.

He criticized the impact of recent trade and economic policies, claiming they were affecting farmers, small businesses, and local manufacturing. He also highlighted unemployment as a major ongoing challenge in the country.

Call for unity and political message

Reiterating his party’s stance, Gandhi referred to the slogan “nafrat ke bazar mein mohabbat ki dukan” and said the Congress stands for unity and harmony.

He added that, in his view, the Congress would remain the main force capable of challenging the BJP politically.

Several senior Congress leaders, including B. K. Hariprasad, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Randeep Singh Surjewala, and Birender Singh, also attended the rally.
