Daily Wagers Stage Protest in Kathua Over Regularisation and Fair Wages

In Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, daily wage workers staged a protest in Kathua district, demanding regularisation of their jobs and implementation of minimum wage laws. According to Beyond Time News, the protest highlights long-standing issues of low pay and job insecurity among workers.

The demonstration was organised under the banner of the All Daily Wagers of J&K Sangrash Samiti. A large number of workers from different departments participated, including Midday Meal workers, ASHA workers, Anganwadi staff, Home Guards, PHE employees, SPOs, and others.

Long service, but low wages

Protesters said they have spent years working on very low salaries that are not enough to meet basic household needs. Despite their long service, they still lack permanent jobs and basic employment benefits.

They demanded fair wages and the full enforcement of the Minimum Wages Act.
