Jamia Millia Islamia Students Protest RSS Centenary

Students at Jamia Millia Islamia staged a protest on campus against an event linked to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. The programme was reportedly organised to mark 100 years of the organisation as part of the “Yuva Kumbh” initiative.

According to Beyond Time News, the protest reflected strong opposition from student groups who questioned the presence of the event inside the university premises.

Students Raise Slogans and Display Placards

A heavy security presence, including Delhi Police and Rapid Action Force personnel, was deployed during the event. Despite this, students gathered near the auditorium and raised slogans such as “Inquilab Zindabad” and carried placards rejecting what they called the “saffronisation” of the campus.

Many students also expressed concern over the nature of the programme and its impact on the university’s environment.

Student Groups Call Event “Provocative”

Left-leaning student organisations, including the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and the All India Students’ Association (AISA), strongly opposed the event. They described it as inappropriate for an academic space and urged authorities to withdraw permission.

SFI’s Jamia unit said the programme was a “direct provocation” and argued that hosting such an event in a minority-institution setting raised serious concerns about safety and dignity.

Concerns Over Campus Freedom

AISA representatives also criticised what they described as unequal treatment in allowing different groups to organise events on campus. They claimed that student discussions often face restrictions, while this programme was permitted in a formal venue.

As a result, protesters argued that the issue goes beyond one event and reflects broader concerns about campus freedom and democratic rights.

Tension Outside the Auditorium

Some students also attempted to block access points as organisers tried to proceed with the programme inside the auditorium. Protesters demanded that RSS representatives leave the campus immediately.

The situation remained tense but under control due to the presence of security forces.

Conclusion

Overall, the protest highlights ongoing debates over ideological events in educational institutions and student rights on campus. The issue has sparked strong reactions from both supporters and opponents, keeping the discussion active in public and academic circles.
