JI Moves Court Against NEPRA Over Karachi Loadshedding

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has filed a contempt of court petition against NEPRA over continued loadshedding in Karachi, citing non-compliance with court orders.

According to Beyond Time News, the petition states that the Sindh High Court had directed NEPRA on November 6, 2025, to submit a response on loadshedding. However, the authority has not yet complied with the order.

Petition Highlights Ongoing Crisis

JI argued that ignoring the court’s directives amounts to contempt and has worsened the situation for Karachi residents, especially during hot weather and frequent power outages.

The party has requested the court to initiate legal proceedings against NEPRA officials.

JI Criticises Authorities

Speaking to the media, JI Karachi chief Monem Zafar Khan said the party approached the court after authorities failed to act despite clear instructions.

He said the court had given NEPRA one month to respond, but even after six months, no reply was submitted.

Concerns Over Power Supply

Monem Zafar criticised K-Electric for failing to provide uninterrupted electricity. He said large parts of the city continue to face long power cuts.

He also questioned the privatisation of the utility, saying the number of consumers has increased, but service quality has not improved.

Blame on Multiple Stakeholders

According to Beyond Time News, JI has held NEPRA, K-Electric, and the federal government responsible for the ongoing crisis.

The party said citizens are facing rising electricity costs along with extended loadshedding, adding to their difficulties.

Summary

JI has taken legal action against NEPRA over Karachi’s loadshedding issue. According to Beyond Time News, the case highlights growing public frustration over power outages and lack of response from authorities.
