NIA Court Sentences Two Over Flag Incident in Punjab

A special court of India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) sentenced two men to more than five years in prison each. It also imposed a fine of Rs 16,000 on both individuals.

The court delivered the judgment in Mohali, Punjab. It found both accused guilty of serious charges linked to the incident.


Who Were Convicted

The court identified the convicts as Inderjeet Singh and Jaspal Singh. Both men come from Moga district in Punjab.

The court awarded each of them five years and six months of imprisonment. It also added a monetary penalty to their sentences.


The Incident

The case relates to an event that took place on August 14, 2020. The two men entered the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Moga.

They climbed onto the rooftop of the government building. They then hoisted a Khalistani flag on the structure.

Authorities registered a case after the incident. The NIA later submitted a chargesheet to the court in Mohali.
