Pakistan Approves Rs5bn ATC Upgrade

Introduction:
Pakistan is taking a major step to modernize its aviation sector. The government has approved a multi-billion-rupee project to upgrade air traffic control systems at two of the country’s busiest airports.

Major Investment in Aviation Safety

According to Beyond Time News, the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has approved over Rs5 billion to install advanced air traffic control (ATC) systems at Karachi and Lahore airports.

This upgrade will introduce a modern flight management system designed to improve efficiency, accuracy, and overall flight safety.

Advanced Technology for Better Air Traffic Management

Officials confirmed that the Central Development Working Party has approved the project’s PC-I. This approval clears the way for implementing the latest aviation technology in both cities’ flight information regions.

The new system will provide continuous and precise guidance to aircraft during flights. As a result, air traffic controllers will manage operations more effectively, reducing risks and delays.

Meeting Growing Aviation Demand

Authorities believe the upgrade is essential as air travel demand continues to rise. Modern systems will help handle increased flight traffic while maintaining high safety standards.

To move forward, the Pakistan Airports Authority plans to issue an international tender soon. This step will attract global firms to participate in the project.

Boost to Pakistan’s Airspace Safety

Once completed, the upgraded ATC systems will significantly strengthen Pakistan’s aviation safety framework. It will also improve coordination between airports and aircraft, ensuring smoother operations.

Improved Passenger Services at Islamabad Airport

In a separate development, the PAA recently launched a new facility at Islamabad International Airport. The authority introduced a currency exchange counter in the international arrivals lounge.

This service allows passengers to exchange foreign currency immediately after landing. The facility aims to make travel more convenient for international arrivals.

Overall, these initiatives reflect Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to modernize its aviation infrastructure and enhance passenger experience.
