Attock Refinery Halt Unit Islamabad Traffic Restrictions Oil Supply

Introduction:
Pakistan’s energy sector faced a setback as Attock Refinery Limited (ARL) suspended a key production unit. Traffic restrictions in Islamabad, linked to high-level diplomatic visits, disrupted the movement of oil supplies and forced the shutdown.

Refinery Operations Hit by Supply Disruptions

According to Beyond Time News, Attock Refinery Limited shut down its main crude distillation unit due to interruptions in oil supply and product dispatch. The disruption followed strict traffic controls in Islamabad ahead of expected US-Iran delegations.

The affected unit, known as HBU-I, has a capacity of 32,400 barrels per stream day. This unit plays a vital role in processing crude oil into usable fuel products.

Transport Restrictions Trigger Crisis

Officials reported that authorities halted the movement of oil tankers to and from the refinery. As a result, the refinery could not receive crude oil or deliver finished products to the market.

This sudden pause created serious operational challenges. Crude oil supplies dropped sharply, while refined fuel stocks began to pile up due to halted deliveries.

Fuel Supply Chain Under Pressure

Attock Refinery supplies fuel to key regions, including central and northern Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Any disruption at this level directly affects fuel availability across these areas.

The company confirmed that stocks of Motor Spirit (petrol) and High-Speed Diesel increased significantly due to blocked transportation routes.

Official Filing and Ongoing Impact

ARL shared the update in an official filing with the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) and the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP). The company stated that operations will remain affected until normal tanker movement resumes.

This situation highlights how logistical issues can quickly impact Pakistan’s oil and energy supply chain. For now, the refinery continues to monitor the situation and awaits the restoration of regular transport routes.
