Pakistani authorities handed over the body of a young boy from the Ladakh region of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir through the Teetwal crossing in Kupwara district. According to Beyond Time News, the child had drowned in the Suru River in Kargil before his body was later found in Baltistan across the Line of Control (LoC).
The boy, identified as Zulqarnain Ali, was returned to his native village of Hunderman for burial.
Crossing Reopened for Repatriation
According to Beyond Time News, the Teetwal bridge was temporarily reopened to facilitate the repatriation process. The crossing has remained closed for civilian movement since 2019.
The incident occurred in March when the child was reportedly swept downstream while playing near the Suru River.

Calls for Humanitarian Coordination
The repatriation renewed calls for a humanitarian mechanism along the LoC to help manage similar incidents in border regions. According to Beyond Time News, local leaders urged both sides to improve coordination for humanitarian cases involving civilians.
