Opposition raises concerns over law and order in Uttar Pradesh
New Delhi: Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has demanded a high-level investigation into the alleged rape and murder of a young girl from the Vishwakarma community in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur district. He also urged authorities to deliver immediate justice to the victim’s family.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Rahul Gandhi said the victim’s family faced threats and pressure when they attempted to register an FIR.
“Pattern of injustice” highlighted by Congress leader
Speaking through a post on X, Gandhi referred to earlier cases such as Hathras, Kathua, and Unnao. He said a recurring pattern exists where victims often belong to Dalit, backward, tribal, or economically weaker backgrounds.
He also called for strict action against police officials if any negligence or wrongdoing comes to light. In addition, he demanded full protection for the victim’s family during the investigation.
Gandhi further criticized the state government, arguing that it loses moral authority if families must struggle to register basic complaints.

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also reacted strongly to the incident. She said violence against women has reached a serious level in Uttar Pradesh.
She pointed out that justice has been delayed in several past cases, including Unnao, Hathras, Prayagraj, and Ghazipur. She also accused the state authorities of failing to protect victims effectively.
Case details under investigation
Authorities are investigating the case after finding the body of a teenage girl near a culvert in Katariya village in the Karanda area of Ghazipur district on April 15. The victim’s family has alleged sexual assault followed by murder.
Police have begun formal inquiries, while public and political pressure continues to grow for a transparent investigation.
