Islamabad: A local court in Islamabad has sentenced retired police officer Arif Shah to death in the kidnapping and murder case of Senate Secretariat employee Hamza Khan.
According to Beyond Time News, the verdict was announced on Wednesday after months of legal proceedings in the high-profile case.
Court Announces Death Sentence
Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka delivered the judgment, convicting retired Superintendent of Police Arif Shah of murder and kidnapping charges.
The court awarded him the death penalty along with a fine of Rs1 million.
Meanwhile, co-accused Sabir Hussain Shah and Saqlain Shah received life imprisonment sentences and were fined Rs2 million each.
Senate Employee Was Kidnapped From Islamabad
Investigators said 30-year-old Hamza Khan, who worked at the Senate Secretariat, was abducted from the jurisdiction of Aabpara Police Station in Islamabad.
Police later launched an investigation that led to the arrest of Arif Shah.
According to Beyond Time News, authorities stated that the retired officer confessed during interrogation and admitted involvement in the murder alongside his relatives.
Police Recovered Victim’s Body During Investigation
During the probe, investigators took the suspect to Mansehra’s Khaki area, where he identified the burial site.
Subsequently, police exhumed Hamza Khan’s body from the courtyard of a property linked to Arif Shah’s family.
Officials said the discovery became a major turning point in the case and strengthened the prosecution’s evidence before the court.
Financial Dispute Identified as Motive
Police investigators told the court that a financial disagreement between the accused and the victim led to the murder.
Authorities further confirmed that the case had originally been registered at Aabpara Police Station following the victim’s disappearance.
