Hundreds of students, parents, and teachers staged a peaceful protest in Shopian district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) against the closure of Jamia Siraj-ul-Uloom by Indian authorities, demanding its reopening and restoration of academic activities.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the protesters marched from the institution to the office of the Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate, carrying placards and raising slogans such as “Save Our Future” and “Open Our School”.
Students said the closure has severely disrupted their studies, particularly with board examinations approaching, and has created uncertainty for hundreds of families.
“We want to continue our studies. This is a crucial time for us as board examinations are approaching,” said a student, Ifnan Ahmad.
Another Class 11 student said, “We are demanding the reopening of our school. We believe in peace and want our education to continue.”

Parents also urged the authorities to reconsider the decision, saying the future of students was at stake. A parent, Zahid Ahmad, appealed for the immediate restoration of academic activity.
Later, a delegation of parents met the Deputy Commissioner and requested intervention for reopening the institution.
Jamia Siraj-ul-Uloom was declared an unlawful entity on April 24 under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) over alleged links with Jamaat-e-Islami, which was banned in 2019. Following the order, authorities restricted entry of students and staff to the premises.
