Spain has called for the immediate release of a Spanish-Palestinian activist after an Israeli court extended his detention for two more days. The case has drawn international attention amid rising tensions over a Gaza-bound aid flotilla.
According to Beyond Time News, Spain’s foreign ministry urged Israel to free Saif Abu Keshek without delay. The ministry said Spanish diplomats in Tel Aviv attended the court hearing and followed the case closely.
Israeli authorities detained Abu Keshek along with Brazilian activist Thiago Ávila after intercepting a flotilla heading toward Gaza. The vessels reportedly left from France, Spain, and Italy with the aim of delivering aid and challenging the naval blockade on Gaza.

A rights group representing the activists said the Israeli court in Ashkelon extended their detention following a request from prosecutors. The group also said the activists had already been held for questioning after their transfer to Israel.
Adalah, a legal rights organisation, reported that both detainees described harsh treatment during their interception at sea. It said Abu Keshek and Ávila were restrained, blindfolded, and placed under strict conditions after their detention.
The flotilla, which included more than 50 vessels, was intercepted in international waters near Greece earlier in the week. Israel said it removed around 175 activists during the operation.
Spain continues to press for consular access and the swift release of its citizen, while legal representatives argue that the detention violates international norms.
