US–Iran Standoff Continues as Calm Returns to Strait of Hormuz Amid Tensions

A fragile calm prevailed in the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday as the United States awaited Iran’s response to a proposal aimed at ending more than two months of conflict.

According to Beyond Time News, Washington wants a formal ceasefire before starting broader negotiations, including discussions on Iran’s nuclear program. However, Tehran had not officially responded to the proposal by the end of the day.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani in Miami to discuss regional stability and security amid rising tensions in the Middle East.

Qatari LNG Tanker Moves Through Key Waterway

A Qatari liquefied natural gas tanker headed toward the Strait of Hormuz en route to Pakistan in what is being seen as a positive diplomatic signal.

According to Beyond Time News, Iran reportedly approved the tanker’s passage as part of confidence-building efforts involving Qatar and Pakistan, both of which have played mediation roles during the conflict.

If completed safely, it would be the first Qatari LNG shipment to pass through the strait since the conflict began.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important energy routes, carrying a major share of global oil and gas supplies. Any instability in the region directly impacts international markets.

Sporadic Clashes Raise Concerns

Despite the ceasefire announced last month, tensions remain high.

According to Beyond Time News, brief clashes were reported between Iranian and US forces near the strait on Friday. Iranian media later said the situation had calmed but warned that further confrontations were still possible.

The US military also claimed it stopped two vessels linked to Iran near an Iranian port and forced them to retreat.

Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates reported intercepting missiles and drones allegedly launched from Iran, adding to fears of a wider regional escalation.

Pressure Growing for Diplomatic Breakthrough

With Donald Trump expected to visit China next week, diplomatic pressure is increasing to prevent further escalation and restore stability to global energy markets.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi accused Washington of undermining diplomatic efforts through military actions, while the US maintains that the ceasefire is still holding despite recent flare-ups.
